The Ferrari 550 Maranello replaces the 512M, the latest evolution of the Ferrari Testarossa.
Designed by Pininfarina, after more than two decades of Ferrari production marked by the performance of a mid-engine model from the classic range, the brand took a major turn with the introduction of the 550 Maranello in 1996 2 .
The new model was equipped with a front engine, like its stable mate, the 456 GT, and was inspired by the innovations and technological advances developed on this model.
The 550 Maranello debuted in July 1996 at a major Ferrari rally on the German Nurburgring circuit. The new car was then at the center of the event. The drivers of the F1 team at the time, Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine, was at the wheel of this car, as well as many former drivers of the Ferrari team, including former world champions Niki Lauda and Jody Scheckter .
The 550 Maranello was produced between 1996 and 2001.
